The Color Factory
I went to the Color Factory worried that its reputation as the most instagrammable show ever would turn it into a narcissistic nightmare, but it was quite the opposite. In fact, I loved it!
Despite being very visual, it is an immersive experience that engages much more than just sight: you are invited to draw, eat, drink, dance, make sounds, and more, but in your own time and with no expectations.
Because there are photo booths, picture taking is actually organized, and people feel free to enjoy the spaces before and after posing. I could not help but think about photogenic exhibitions I have attended, in which I felt stressed about people pushing each other for a shot instead of actually seeing the works. I recognize, however, that this may be an unfair comparison because at the Color Factory, you are asked to be part of the show, and maybe that takes the anxiety away. More importantly, their cameras include angles and shots that would be impossible with a phone, and they create images that I found very special.
Finally, the show is super well installed, the staff is lovely, and they have collaborated with noteworthy organizations. I still wonder if it should be called art, but I recommend the experience.
